Trudging through the wooden area of the ground was the last thing Kaeyan expected to be doing once arriving at the camp. Cautiously, Kaeyan stepped over logs and gripped her two suitcases just a little bit tighter than usual. The light brown suitcases were beginning to darken by the dirt that clutched onto it. Kaeyan didn't dare to look down at her sneakers or bottom part of her navy blue jeans. She could already feel the moisture soaking through. The image of an awaiting bath was the only thing that kept her going. Of course deep down inside Kaeyan knew that a bath wouldn't be awaiting her, but one could always dream.
As she continued to walk the Frostbite Dormitory building came into view. Instantly, Kaeyan was overwhelmed by a feeling of homesickness. She bit the insides of her mouth as her lips formed into a thin line. There was no reason to think that way. Kaeyan had made her choice and she would live by it...It was when her toe rammed into the front door that Kaeyan knew she had arrived. Fortunately, no one had been there to see her moment of humiliation and for that Kaeyan was grateful. Still, Kaeyan couldn't help but feel the blood rush to her cheeks and she just knew she was blushing red in embarrassment.
Gently, she dropped her suitcases down beside her and pulled out a rather large metal key from her right front pocket. The metal felt cool against her warm skin. So this is where it all begins... Kaeyan thought to herself as she placed the key inside the lock. One would think that such a beginning would be dramatic. That the door would slowly open with a creek just like in all the movies and novels that Kaeyan read. She would open the door in a feeling of panic and dread only in the end to become a great heroine and live a happy life. If only her beginning could have happened the right way. Then perhaps the end would have followed suit.
Kaeyan turned the doorknob and pushed open the old oak wooden door. The door did not creek nor did it open slowly. Instead, the door opened like any other door normally would and it was in very stable condition. Silently, she picked up her bags with no feeling of panic or dread at all and stepped inside her new home. Her heartstrings pulled a little in sadness as she crossed the doorway, but nothing else inside her happened. Dark blue eyes scanned the rather large and comfortable common room. The fireplace was burning already which in turn made the atmosphere seem calm and welcoming. Perhaps her life here wouldn't be so bad...
Kaeyan dropped her suitcases next to one of the nearby couches and attended to the door. Carefully, she pulled out her master key to the Frostbite Dormitory and closed the door gently. There was no need for urgency considering how she just arrived here. Kaeyan decided to relax a little before heading up the stairs and to the rooms where she was sure someone was already there, perhaps waiting for their roommate to come. In a way Kaeyan was hesitant to meet her roommate. Sure, she had nothing against other people, but the only person she had ever shared a room with was her twin brother, Dax. Which in a way was all too hectic in itself and sooner than she would have liked the two were separated due to this. Undeniably inside Kaeyan just knew it would happen again. She would become separated from her roommate when the war began...For a few more seconds she wanted to just be alone and to not have to face this problem.
So there Kaeyan sat on a warm and comfortable couch. She sat just gazing at the fire and willing herself not to think too much.
